FACT: Saturn, the beloved sixth planet from our sun is a very special planet. Beyond its spectacular rings are many other things one should know about the planet. The first thing, which you may already know, is that Saturn is classed as a ,’gas giant.’ This means what it sounds like, it is big and is mainly gas, very little hard stuff like the ground beneath your feet. Thanks to this abundance of gas and lack of rocks, Saturn has a paltry density of only 0.687 g/cm³.
This low number means one extraordinary thing, and that is this; were one to drop Saturn into a large body of water, its low density would cause Saturn to do something unexpected – it would float. It would sit there and float. Not something you would expect, especially when you consider that its mass is 95 times larger than the Earths.
